A tola is a traditional South Asian weight of 180 grains, exactly 11.6638 grams. India moved to metric weights in the 1950s and hallmarked jewellery is now weighed in grams, but families, jewellers and gold buyers across North India, Pakistan and Nepal still talk about gold in tola.
