How to Compare Credit Cards in India (2026)
Choosing the right credit card isn't just about looking at the highest reward rate. Many premium cards in India come with hidden caps, exclusions on essential categories (like utilities, fuel, and rent), and milestone benefits that are difficult to achieve. Our credit card comparison calculator helps you cut through the marketing jargon by calculating the true Net Annual Valuebased on your unique monthly spending habits.
Whether you're comparing cashback heavyweights like the SBI Cashback Card, Amazon Pay ICICI, or Flipkart Axis, or premium travel cards like HDFC Infinia and Axis Magnus, this tool applies every rule accurately so you can maximize your savings.
Understanding Net Annual Value
Net Annual Value is the actual money you save or earn after subtracting annual fees. We compute this by:
- Adding up base rewards and accelerated cashback.
- Factoring in milestone bonuses if your spend crosses the threshold.
- Subtracting the annual fee (unless your spend qualifies for a fee waiver).
- Strictly applying monthly reward caps and category exclusions.
Why Caps and Exclusions Matter
Many cards advertise "5% cashback on everything," but read the fine print and you'll find a monthly cap of ₹1,000 or ₹2,000. Once you hit that cap, your reward rate drops to 1% or even 0%. Similarly, most banks now exclude rent, wallet loads, and insurance from earning rewards. Our calculator factors in all these limits automatically so you don't have to guess.
How this credit card calculator works
Enter what you actually spend each month across online shopping, groceries, dining, travel, fuel, bills and rent. The calculator applies each card's reward rate to the matching category, then applies exclusions and monthly caps. It annualises the result, adds milestones you can realistically reach and subtracts the annual fee after any spend-based waiver.
This is why the card with the highest recurring rewards is not always the best card overall. A lower rewards total can still produce the highest net annual value when its fee is waived or its milestone benefit is larger.
Cashback or travel rewards?
Choose cashback when you want a simple statement credit or the card's points are worth more as vouchers. Choose travel / airmiles when you will redeem points for flights or hotels and the card publishes a higher travel value. Cashback cards are unchanged by this switch; only points-based cards use the selected redemption value.
Before applying, check these details
- Whether your biggest spend categories are eligible for rewards.
- Monthly caps, minimum redemption amounts and redemption fees.
- Annual fee waiver thresholds and milestone expiry rules.
- GST on fees and the bank's latest terms before applying.
Credit card comparison FAQs
Which credit card is best for my spending?
There is no universal winner. The best card is the one with the highest net annual value for your category mix after caps, exclusions, milestones and fees.
Why is one card's rewards value lower but its net value higher?
Rewards are recurring cashback or points only. Net value also includes milestone benefits and subtracts the effective annual fee, so those two numbers can legitimately rank differently.
Are lounge access and other perks included?
No. The calculator keeps lounge access, insurance and other non-cash perks visible in the comparison table instead of assigning an arbitrary rupee value to them.
Are the amounts shown after GST?
No. Rupee values exclude GST. Confirm the latest fee, reward and redemption terms with the issuer before applying.
