Navy Federal certificate early withdrawal penalty
| Term | Penalty |
|---|---|
| 1 year or less | 90 days of interest |
| More than 1 year and less than 5 years | 180 days of interest |
Example: $10,000 in a 1-year certificate at 4.05%, withdrawn after 6 months, has earned $200.49. The penalty is $97.90, so you would get $10,102.59.
Penalty is the lesser of the stated days of dividends or all dividends earned, so it does not reach your principal. We could not confirm the rule for 5-year terms in the official disclosure, so those terms ask you for the penalty. Official disclosure (checked 2026-11-04).
Who can join Navy Federal

How We Calculate & Keep This Accurate
Maturity value is your deposit grown at the APY for the term: A = P × (1 + APY)^(months ÷ 12). The APY for each term is the highest balance tier your deposit qualifies for. Early withdrawal penalties are charged as simple interest on the deposit at the CD's interest rate (the APY converted to its daily rate), following Navy Federal's published rule for that term.
Rates come from Navy Federal's own rate page. We use the APY Ledger dataset (CC BY 4.0) to spot rate changes, and we checked a sample of rates and the penalty rules against Navy Federal's website and disclosures. Results are estimates, not an offer from the bank.
